In this 2-day immersion we will look to see where our impulses lead us.. to find a stitch treatment that belongs.
For some.. it will be in the beauty of repair to a preloved item.. allowing the worn and the weary.. the stained and torn.. the battered and bruised.. to become transformed gems. Darned areas may be vividly emblazoned or subtly blending
into our cloth.. either way they will adorn the garment.. bringing much sing and aliveness to your piece.
Secondly.. you will have the opportunity to go one step further and completely work over an entire garment.. allowing fundamental Textile Design tools to be gleaned and utilised.. an entire surface pattern treatment will come to life on your loved but weary favourite.. bringing a sense of revitalisation and richness.. a new relationship to your garment.
And finally.. but not least.. you might allow the beauty of the sampler to take you into rich play with simple techniques.. creating lush surfaces and intricate patterning.. line and repetition. These samplers speak to the painter.. the jeweller and the interior designer within. They are pieces to cherish and inspire you.. remind you of the possibilities for your future stitch works.. as well as being works of art in their own right. Trish will guide you to ensure you get the most out of your explorations as well as assist you to your best direction.
What you will learn
Kantha or running stitch.. stem stitch.. and backstitch will be our focus stitches.. utilising both DMC six strand cotton embroidery thread.. as well as introducing the very painterly and organic quality of Tricia's signature ripped-silk technique as an option to create your surface.
Consideration will be taken for the overall design and balance of all works to ensure an aesthetic that harmonises and pleases. Use of simple lines to create stripe.. check.. diamond and Polka Dot.. will further ensure you gain a grasp of the fundamentals of design.. Or build on the existing repertoire and knowledge that you've already tucked under your belt.
Tricia’s workshops are always about play and exploration.. allowing the spontaneity of the moment to weave the new.
With the focus on simplicity and repetition.. these two days also allow for deep stillness and inner reflection.. an opportunity to imbue your cloth with intention. A symbolic gesture of prayer can be laid to rest within the fibres of your work.
Your work thus becomes a keeper.. a holder of your heart and it's quiet ways.

Techniques
This Workshop will include use of DMC 6-strand cotton embroidery thread, Tricia's signature ripped-silk method, kantha or running stitch, stem stitch, blanket stitch & Satin Stitch.
Materials
Trish will provide embroidery threads.. silk.. and linen scraps for your Sampler’s.. and any Garment work. Needles and scissors will also be available.. however ..please bring your favourite kit of threads.. needles and scissors should you have them.. and equally.. your most beloved Fabric scraps.
Please note: for some of you, there may not be a garment in the wardrobe or a desire to do such treatment.
This does not exclude you from this workshop, as in essence, this workshop will cover design fundamentals and the embroidered/stitched surface.. finding successful repeat design or single-placement motif for use in any textile undertaking at home.. be it repeat design, all over coverage, motif or surface treatment.
Bring with you your favourite worn & weary garments, anything with holes, rips or threadbare. If you have a special kit of threads and needles you can bring them along. If not, they will be available throughout the 6 weeks. All other materials will be provided and an email with further details will be sent in advance for your preparations.
